About WUH

I started the Wake Up Heavy podcast in essence to have a creative outlet. As mentioned in the introductory 'cast and the About Mark page here, I have dabbled in publishing, writing, and printmaking over the years, but have done nothing creative for the past eight or so. The subject matter seemed like a no-brainer to me, but how to present it? Video reviews? A blog? Well, I'm not quite comfortable with the idea of filming myself, both technically speaking and just seeing my face splashed across a screen, and writing feels like such a chore to me in my old age.
What else is there? A podcast? Hmmm... Well, my family likes podcasts, my wife listens to a ton of them, and we all enjoy Lore and Myths and Legends when we're driving around. But how does one, who has never recorded anything in his life, go about this? Turns out it's pretty dang easy, which may explain why there are so many out there. I had most of the equipment at my disposal, and the rest was very easy to obtain. And, as it turns out, I kinda like doing it! I'm not a huge fan of listening to my own voice, but otherwise I'm enjoying diving into these beloved movies, doing the necessary research, and tinkering with the tools required to make it all happen.
That brings up one issue that may be apparent when listening: there will be some audio quirkiness going on due to my recording circumstances. Suffice to say I am recording in a very "live" space, and it leads to some technical problems that I don't have a full grasp on just yet. So please be patient with me as I learn and improve. I'm sure I'll look back at these early episodes with a smattering of embarrassment and amusement.
You can follow WUH here on the blog, on Facebook, iTunes, GooglePlay, and SoundCloud. I hope to put out an episode every month, with some additional short 'casts thrown in whenever possible. A "season" will last about six months, with a possible break at that point.
As always, thanks so much for stopping by. --Mark
